Welcome

Our mission is to support and enhance lifelong learning for the 21st century by anticipating and fulfilling the needs of students and staff for information, encouraging reading for information and pleasure, and enriching the quality of life in the schools and in the community.

Our goals are to implement, enrich, and support the curriculum, the Virginia SOL and technology initiatives. Each school library media center shall provide materials, services, and activities that will help each student, faculty member, and community member to obtain skills to use information effectively in a complex information environment. We further strive to encourage all students to read for enrichment and recreation, to help them improve and refine research skills, to work collaboratively with classroom teachers, and to provide equitable access to the best (up-to-date resources) (available print and non-print materials) on the widest possible variety of topics.

About your Librarian

Mrs. Barbour worked for seven years as a classroom teacher mostly working at Henry Elementary.  In 2022 she joined Ferrum Elementary as our Library Media Specialist. Graduating from Liberty University in 2009 and holding a PreK-6th Grade licensure from the VDOE, she is currently enrolled in coursework at UVA Wise, pursuing a specialization in library media while concurrently working to gain her microcredentials in cybersecurity through Radford University. As a librarian, she is dedicated to not only nurturing a profound passion for reading among students but also equipping them with essential skills to navigate an ever-evolving world. Her commitment lies in preparing the next generation to thrive in a dynamic future.
