Ferrum Elementary School

Library Media Center

Our mission is to support and enhance lifelong learning for the 21st century by anticipating and fulfilling the needs of students and staff for information, encouraging reading for information and pleasure, and enriching the quality of life in the schools and in the community.

Our goals are to implement, enrich, and support the curriculum, the Virginia SOL and technology initiatives. Each school library media center shall provide materials, services, and activities that will help each student, faculty member, and community member to obtain skills to use information effectively in a complex information environment. We further strive to encourage all students to read for enrichment and recreation, to help them improve and refine research skills, to work collaboratively with classroom teachers, and to provide equitable access to the best (up-to-date resources) (available print and non-print materials) on the widest possible variety of topics.

Volunteering Opportunities

If you are a parent, aspiring librarian or teacher, or retired community member who enjoys giving of your time there are numerous opportunities throughout the school year to volunteer.

Book Fair Volunteers

At least twice a year our library hosts a school wide book fair. I also have a family event one evening of the fair. Volunteers can help set up and pack up the book fair, collect and count money, help students shop for books, and help facilitate fun activities and contests at the family event.
